Willip Ho, Nor Rizan’s manager, and founder of Fight Pro-Motion gym where Nor Rizan coaches and trains, believes that despite his age, Nor Rizan still possesses championship level punching power, ring-craft, and footwork. These abilities were clear to see when he won his comeback fight in January 2017 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre against Master Suro (12-9-1) of Indonesia (via a split decision). “Experience matters in title fights. It will be 10 rounds of boxing, so pacing oneself is key. Young and inexperienced boxers do not understand this,” claims Willip. Nor Rizan agrees and further says that, “I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I will be ready, and I am confident of taking this belt for Singapore, for my fans, and for myself.”
Additionally, Singapore’s Zakaria Ismail will be making his professional boxing debut at the Championship. The 33 year old boxer has more than 70 amateur fights under his belt, including twice representing Singapore at the Southeast Asia (SEA) Games. He will be up against Will Chope of the USA (1-0-0) in the light heavyweight category (175lbs). Will Chope is an ex-UFC fighter and holds a 36-13-0 MMA record.

ABOUT NOR RIZAN
Mohamad Nor Rizan turned professional in 2006 but good quality fights were hard to come by in those early days. Having only had 10 fights to date, he had to supplement his boxing income by being a physical training instructor in the day, and a boxing coach in the evenings. However, the prospects of a professional boxer in Singapore has improved tremendously over these past couple of years as more promoters are entering the scene and developing the sport as an entertainment spectacle for the country and the region.
“I am humbled by this opportunity to fight for a WBC Asia title. It was a long journey, and I hope that my determination and perseverance will motivate younger boxers to keep training and to keep believing.” – Nor Rizan
ABOUT WILLIP HO
Willip Ho, founder of Fight Pro-Motion gym, and co-founder of THRIVE Championship, states there is great interest and participation in boxing and muaythai activities in Singapore. He sees both these sports growing from fitness and technique training to amateur competitions, and to maintain the momentum of this growth, the community has to witness and appreciate the level of quality a professional boxer or muaythai
exponent brings to a bout.
“Besides being very effective as an exercise or weight loss option, boxing and muaythai also develop discipline, determination, coordination, and respect. The experience of sparring or fighting in a ring is an incredible one. We want to provide a clear and safe path for budding amateurs to achieve their professional dreams, if they aspire for it.” – Willip Ho
ABOUT GAVIN CHONG
Gavin Chong, co-founder of THRIVE Championship, believes that the various gyms and fight clubs in Singapore should work together to develop the amateur and local professional boxing and muaythai scene.
Working together to enrich the combat sports community will ultimately benefit all stakeholders in the industry.
“THRIVE Championship is all about giving amateurs the opportunity to fight on the same stage as a seasoned
professional.” – Gavin Chong
